Pick em up or Stick em up!

Finally its Gamecube's turn to go Crrrrrrazy!

When it came out on the Dreamcast more than two years ago, Crazy Taxi was one of the most sought-after games. Finally Gamecube has its hand on this Crazy little number but does it still live up to the hype after all this time?

More than two years is a long time to wait for a Nintendo conversion, and Sega probably would have been better just bringing Crazy Taxi 2 to the Gamecube (Crazy Taxi 2 is also coming out watch out for it!). The fact is, for everyone who played the Dreamcast version, there is not much different in terms of gameplay and content. The object of the game is still to pick up as many people as you can, and drop them off at their destinations in the time limit. Sure, the graphics are slightly better, especially the vehicles which you try to dodge around, or just simply plough through and there are a number of new destinations to take passengers to but other than that, its the same, Crazy game.

Everyone who played the Dreamcast version will know that after a while it starts to get boring. The passengers have fixed positions, meaning that every game is virtually the same you just need to move a bit quicker. And Crazy Box mode, while fun for a while, becomes increasing harder, and you end up just leaving it.

Of course, being one of the only taxi games on the Cube (others being Simpsons Road Rage and Smashing Drive), Crazy Taxi doesnt have much competition and so in that sense it is still a winner. But if after a while boredom and repetitiveness dont get to you, the Crrrrrazy voice will.

Graphics:        8/10 - Brilliant cars and scenery, but some buildings look a bit rushed and 'flat'.
Gameplay:      8/10 - Very nice idea, but could have done with more modes, or maybe a multiplayer.
Sound:           9/10 - Some great music, and the voice acting is pretty good too
Longevity:      7/10 - Lasts a long time, but boredom will eventually cancel out your need to play
Overall Rating:   63%
Great game, but if the Dreamcast could do this more than 3 years ago, shouldn't the Gamecube have been given a little more?
