Finally the speedy sensation known as Sonic catches up with Nintendo!

The chances of Sonic and Mario been on the same team even 2 years a go was slim to non, but times have changed and SEGA has pulled out of the console market and are making games for the next generation consoles. They made Sonic Adventure 2 Battle for the GameCube. Sonic on Nintendos side, this is a reason for a party!.. Or maybe not.

I never got round to playing the Sonic games on the Dreamcast, but I hope that they were not as disappointing as the GameCube version. Dont get me wrong because the GameCube version is good and I must admit I am a fan of sonic, well the 2D versions back in the early 90s and a half fan on this new Sonic.

When you start the game on story mode two are three types of story to choose from, Hero and Dark which is fun because you get to save the world and/or blow it up. After you complete the two sides to the story a third and final chapter comes in to play called Last where you end up saving the world, again, from Dr Robotnik. You dont play s Dr Robotnik in the game, you play as his grandson Dr. Eggmam. Depending on what side of the story you play depends on what levels you play and what character you play as. As you would expect, Sonic and his enemy Shadow (clone of Sonic but evil) take the fast levels with loops and speed ups. Tails and Dr. Eggman take the, what I like to call them, the move forward and press B levels, because they have homing missiles. This is fun for the first few levels, but will get very boring. And Knuckles and Rouge (bat version of Knuckles) take the only real exploring levels, and they are a pain in the ass.

Another pain in the ass is the camera because say you are doing a Sonic or Shadow mission and something catches your eye, you can change the camera to what it is but when you start to go towards it the camera will go back to the original position and half the time you will fall of the edge and loose a life. All in all there are 32 levels and 180 emblems to collect. 5 emblems on each level except the Chaos level where there are 9 to collect. Chaos are the little sweet, or very UGLY in my Chaos case, things that you can to raise if you want to. They get stronger when you feed them poisons on animals from the levels that you have completed. I think this is the highlight of the game.

There is also a 2 player option where you can have races and fight against the Chaos which is very funny.

Graphics: 8/10 - Characters look great and the texture in the levels are amazing, but there are a few glitches.

Gameplay: 7/10 - Fast, which is what Sonic is all about but some of the levels havent got much to do apart from run.

Sound: 3/10 - Very poor, very poor and have I said very poor? Ok rock music in parts but way too repetitive and some of the music is just naf. and the characters need a good slap in the voice box.

Longevity: 7/10 - Once you look past the bad points of the game it is good and will keep you pleased.

Overall Rating: 75%

Sonic Adventure 2 Battle proves that fast is not always better. This game is definitely worth buying and a second hand price (I got it for £30) but not £45. To be honest I wouldnt unless you can make up the money for Super Mario Sunshine out on the 4th  of October.
